Sony confirms indefinite shutdown of LittleBigPlanet 3 servers.

Sony has officially announced that the servers for LittleBigPlanet 3 on PlayStation 4 will be offline indefinitely due to ongoing technical issues. This decision comes after a temporary shutdown in January, leaving millions of user-generated levels inaccessible to new players. While creation content stored locally on devices can still be accessed, the discontinuation of server support marks the end of an era for the popular game.

Players who have enjoyed the endless ocean of player-generated content in LittleBigPlanet 3 will now have to adapt to a new reality where access to such content is no longer possible. This is a significant blow to fans who have been creating and playing user-generated levels since the game’s launch in 2014. In a similar move, PlayStation 3 players lost access to content from previous LittleBigPlanet games when Sony shut down servers in 2021, highlighting the inevitable loss of online features for older games.

Despite the loss of server access, players can still enjoy the story mode of LittleBigPlanet 3, offering around seven-to-eight hours of gameplay. Sumo Digital’s installment received a 6.8 review score upon release, praised for its creation toolkit but criticized for co-op limitations and bugs. As fans navigate this new chapter without server support, the future of the LittleBigPlanet franchise remains uncertain.
