Ring has introduced a new battery-powered doorbell that is an upgrade to last year’s Ring Battery Plus. The $229.99 Battery Doorbell Pro comes with enhancements such as 3D Motion Detection powered by radar, dual-band Wi-Fi, color pre-roll, and color night vision. Despite the additional features, the design of this new doorbell remains the same as other Ring doorbells, prompting calls for a radical shake-up in the company’s design philosophy.
The new Battery Doorbell Pro has essentially all the features of the wired Video Doorbell Pro 2, leading many to question why it lacks battery-hungry and frankly useless features like Alexa Greetings. The lack of design innovation in Ring’s doorbell lineup has been criticized as the company celebrates the ten-year anniversary of its original doorbell. Despite complaints about the aesthetics, the new Doorbell Pro offers advanced features like “Low Light Sight” for night vision and noise-canceling Audio Plus for better two-way talk.
Ring’s new doorbell is available for pre-order and will begin shipping on March 6th, 2024. However, questions still remain about the design of Ring’s battery-powered options and whether the additional $80 investment in the Pro version will be worth it given that it still shares the same design as prior models.
