Microsoft testing ads in Windows 11 Start menu.

Microsoft has announced that they are testing ads within the Start menu on Windows 11, specifically in the Recommended section that typically displays file recommendations. These ads will suggest apps from the Microsoft Store to users, starting with Windows Insiders in the Beta Channel in the US. The company clarified that commercial devices, or those managed by organizations, will not be affected by these app promotions.

While users will have the option to disable these ads in the Settings section of Windows 11, Microsoft is looking for feedback on the changes. Depending on the response, the company may decide to remove these ads from future builds of Windows 11 if they are not well-received. Ultimately, it will be up to Windows testers to provide feedback on these ad placements, potentially influencing Microsoft’s decision on whether to include them in the final version of Windows 11.
