Hainan Airlines distributes Rokid AR glasses for in-flight entertainment.

Hainan Airlines has started offering Rokid’s augmented reality (AR) glasses to passengers on select routes for free. The AR glasses allow passengers to watch 3D movies, read e-books, and play games, replacing the need for built-in monitors. This move marks the first time AR glasses are being used at scale on flights, opening up new possibilities for in-flight entertainment.

Rokid’s partnership with Hainan Airlines is seen as more of a marketing effort to raise consumer awareness of AR glasses rather than a major commercial deal. However, Rokid’s founder and CEO, Misa Zhu, stated that the company is in discussions with several other airlines, including a major international carrier, for similar partnerships. Additionally, Hainan Airlines is using the short video to promote its collaboration with Rokid, and the initial trial period for the AR glasses will coincide with the Lunar New Year holiday in China. Zhu also envisions expanding the use of AR glasses to other modes of transportation, such as high-speed trains.

The Rokid AR glasses offer an innovative and immersive in-flight entertainment experience, presenting new opportunities for airlines to enhance their services and competitiveness. As the partnership between Rokid and Hainan Airlines progresses, it is expected to provide more options for passengers to enjoy personalized entertainment while traveling. The potential expansion of AR glasses to other modes of transport indicates a growing trend of integrating advanced technology to enhance the overall travel experience for consumers.
