Apple has confirmed an ongoing “false touch” issue affecting Apple Watch users, commonly known as “ghost touches.” This problem causes the Apple Watch to respond as if the display is being tapped, even when it is not. Initially reported for Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 users, Apple has now acknowledged that the problem also affects Apple Watch Series 7, Apple Watch Series 8, and the first-generation Apple Watch Ultra.
Despite this widespread issue, Apple advises service providers not to replace affected Apple Watch units. Instead, they recommend that users restart their devices by holding the side button and Digital Crown for 10 seconds and keep watchOS software up-to-date. The problem has rendered some devices unusable, especially on the watchOS passcode screen, as reported by concerned users on forums and social media. Ideally, Apple will address this issue with a software update soon, but for now, the “ghost touch” problem may persist.
