ZTE’s Vice President, Summer Chen, recently delivered a keynote speech at the SDG Digital “A Digital Future for All” event held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on September 25, 2024. This announcement from ZTE Corporation, a global leader in integrated information and communication technology solutions, highlighted Chen’s discussion on the company’s global efforts to promote digital technologies for biodiversity protection. She emphasized ZTE’s commitment to advancing global connectivity and digital transformation in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The event, “A Digital Future for All,” was part of the Summit of the Future Action Days and convened stakeholders to discuss harnessing innovation, science, and data in a more inclusive, safe, and sustainable way. It was organized by the Office of the Special Envoy on Technology (OSET), the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
In her address, Summer Chen highlighted ZTE’s collaboration with Sanjiangyuan National Park, China Mobile’s Qinghai Branch, and China Tower. This partnership navigated extreme natural conditions to deliver a comprehensive telecommunication solution for Kekexili Nature Reserve, featuring high-capacity microwave technology and long-distance coverage. This initiative included the establishment of the first 5G base station at Zhuonai Lake Protection Station, enabling real-time monitoring of Tibetan antelope births and improving communication for guardians in challenging environments.
Chen also emphasized ZTE’s active involvement in biodiversity protection initiatives worldwide. In Austria, the company partnered with Drei Austria and IoT40 on the 5G Bee-o-Meter project to enhance bee survival environments. Additionally, in Sichuan Province, China, ZTE rolled out “Panda’s Coming,” the world’s first panda protection 5G Messaging application to aid habitat conservation and assist daily work of rangers.
As an ITU P2C Champion, ZTE is committed to promoting digital transformation and connectivity in least developed countries (LDCs), landlocked developing countries (LLDCs), and small island developing states (SIDS), aiming to bridge the global digital divide.
Summer Chen also attended the “SDG Digital GameChangers Award Ceremony” and “SDG Digital Debrief Session: Moving the Mission Forward,” where she shared insights on ZTE’s digital transformation initiatives globally. One significant project involved ZTE’s collaboration with Orange Liberia to establish 128 Rural EcoSites, providing solar-powered network services to remote areas and benefiting over 580,000 rural users.
As a member of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) and the Global Electronics Sustainability Initiative (GeSI), ZTE remains dedicated to its vision of “To Enable Connectivity and Trust Everywhere,” striving to bridge the global digital divide through technological innovation and contributing towards the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
