One of the distinguishing features of TikTok, compared to other platforms, is the ease with which videos can be edited using both the app itself and its sister application, CapCut. In response to this, other short-form social media platforms are striving to enhance their own video editing capabilities. Initially, Instagram announced that it was developing a video editing app similar to CapCut. Now, YouTube is taking steps to enhance editing features within its Shorts application to facilitate easier short-form video editing.
YouTube disclosed these new video editing features in a recent blog post. The updated tool will allow users to make precise edits within the app by rearranging clips, removing clips, adding music, incorporating timed text, zooming in and out, and previewing Shorts before posting them.
Additionally, it appears that templates on YouTube Shorts will be similar to those on CapCut and Instagram Reels. These templates will enable users to automatically incorporate photos and provide credit to the original creators.
YouTube mentioned that these updates are the initial steps towards improving in-app editing for Shorts. Future enhancements will include a tool to sync videos with the beat of a song, template effects, image stickers, and AI stickers, which users can add by responding to a text prompt.
