Witness Ghostface’s Fatality and New Animalities in MK1

A new update for Mortal Kombat 1 (MK1) is set to release in less than a week, introducing new character skins, finishing moves, and additional fighters to its roster. NetherRealm Studios has given a sneak peek of the upcoming content through a recent trailer.

The trailer, shared on Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon’s social media, highlights what players can expect from the Khaos Reigns pack, which is scheduled for release on September 24, along with future updates. The base version of the game is priced at $49.99 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on Steam, and $39.99 on the Nintendo Switch. The Khaos Reigns DLC is available at $49.99 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and $39.99 for Nintendo Switch. Additionally, the Khaos Reigns Kollection, which includes both the base game and the DLC, is priced at $89.99 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and $69.99 for Nintendo Switch.

The MK1 add-on brings a new story mode where Liu Kang, now an apotheosized being, battles the evil Titan Havik alongside fighters and EarthRealm defenders. The DLC will also introduce the “Kombat Pack 2,” which includes new fighters such as the cyborgs Cyrax and Sektor, and the shadow assassin Noob Saibot. Additional characters like Ghostface from the Scream movies, the T-1000 voiced by Robert Patrick, and Conan the Barbarian will be available post-release.

For those eager for a sneak peek, footage of one of Ghostface’s fatalities was recently leaked, showcasing the Scream villain in action. This particular move features Ghostface eviscerating an opponent with assistance from another Ghostface killer, paying homage to Scream VI.

MK1 is also reintroducing "animalities," a classic finisher that debuted in Mortal Kombat 3. Each character can transform into an animal and execute their opponent in unique ways. Ed Boon shared a clip of Kitana’s animality, where she morphs into a giant hummingbird and turns her opponent into a bloody flower.
