Miramax is preparing to release a new installment in the Scary Movie franchise, and the studio has opted to include the Wayans brothers in the project. According to Deadline, Marlon, Shawn, and Keenen Ivory Wayans have agreed to co-write and co-produce a reboot of Scary Movie for Miramax, which will parody a range of other horror films, as the series has done in the past. Rick Alvarez, known for his work on White Chicks and Little Man, is also set to co-write and produce.

The Wayans brothers originally created the Scary Movie franchise in 2000. In a statement about the upcoming film, they expressed their enthusiasm about working with the "new Miramax" to return the comedy to theaters. Jonathan Glickman, head of Miramax, stated that now is the perfect time to revive the series on the big screen and remarked on the studio’s good fortune to have Keenen, Marlon, and Shawn’s comedic vision reaching audiences worldwide.

While the first two Scary Movie films, directed by Keenen and featuring Marlon and Shawn, were commercial successes, the brothers departed from the series after contract negotiations for a third film fell through. Marlon Wayans later explained on the Comedy Gold Minds podcast in 2021 that the brothers did not voluntarily leave the franchise but that Miramax, under Harvey Weinstein’s leadership, pulled the deal from them.

Production on the new Scary Movie is expected to begin next year. It remains unconfirmed which original cast members might return or if any new actors will join the project.
