The Dane County Sheriff’s Office issued an emergency message advising residents to stay indoors and secure their doors as two armed suspects were on the run near Stoughton. The suspects, a man and a woman, were considered dangerous and armed with a handgun and a rifle, respectively. This prompted a lockdown in the area and the closure of Highway 51 at Washington Road as law enforcement worked to apprehend the suspects.

After several hours of attempting to contact one of the armed suspects barricaded in a home, authorities found both suspects deceased. The man had died from an apparent suicide, while the woman was also found dead. The situation was resolved, and the roads in the surrounding area were reopened, with officials confirming that the public was no longer in danger. Further details were expected to be released later in the day.

The incident near Stoughton escalated quickly, leading to a tense standoff and the closure of major roads in the area. Law enforcement utilized specialized units such as a tactical response team and crisis negotiators to address the situation. The tragic outcome highlighted the dangers posed by armed suspects fleeing from police and the necessary precautions taken by authorities to ensure public safety during such incidents.
