In the past, it was relatively common for highly educated men in the United States to marry women with lower levels of education. However, starting in the mid-20th century, as more women began pursuing higher education, marriages appeared to shift towards greater educational equality, with an increasing number of men and women choosing partners with similar educational backgrounds. This trend towards educational parity in marriages has recently shown signs of stagnation and even reversal.
