Tech experts say don’t expect PS5 Pro to run GTA 6 at 60fps.

The leaked specifications of the PlayStation 5 Pro have been confirmed by tech experts at Digital Foundry, who also made predictions about how the upcoming console will perform with games like GTA 6. The PS5 Pro is expected to be released in the fourth quarter of 2024, boasting a CPU with a ‘High CPU Frequency Mode’ that offers a 10% increase to 3.85GHz and a GPU capable of faster rendering and higher quality ray tracing powered by 33.5 teraflops.

According to founder Rich Leadbetter from Digital Foundry, the PS5 Pro’s CPU upgrade may not significantly impact the performance of GTA 6, as the game is likely to run at a standard 30fps on both the PS5 and PS5 Pro. However, the PS5 Pro excels in rendering capabilities, with the potential to upscale older PS5 games to 4K using an advanced upscaling/antialiasing solution called PSSR. Additionally, the PS5 Pro retains the same amount of GDDR6 memory as the standard PS5 but offers an extra 1.2GB of system RAM for developers.

Industry analysts have suggested that Sony is likely to launch the PS5 Pro later in 2024, following the trend of releasing upgraded versions of their consoles. Despite revising its sales forecast for the current financial year, Sony remains focused on the future, with plans to withhold major releases from existing PlayStation franchises until after April 2025. Amidst these developments, Sony also announced layoffs affecting over 900 employees at its gaming business and the closure of its London studio.
