A dangerous pursuit involving a suspected stolen vehicle that began in Hawthorne came to an end with the arrest of the suspect. The pursuit started on the 110 Freeway around 5:30 p.m. on a Friday, with a gold-colored Kia Soul carrying multiple occupants heading southbound. The vehicle was later involved in a collision on the freeway, causing significant damage to the front end. Despite officers from the California Highway Patrol following the suspect, they chose not to engage in a ground pursuit and instead used air patrol to monitor the situation.
The pursuit continued into the South Los Angeles area, where the driver of the suspected stolen vehicle displayed reckless driving behavior, such as driving on the wrong side of the road and narrowly avoiding collisions. The suspect also ran through red lights and engaged in evasive maneuvers to avoid being caught by authorities. Near the intersection of West Adams Boulevard and Gramercy Place, the driver almost collided with several vehicles, putting pedestrians and other motorists at risk. Eventually, the suspect pulled over under an underpass at Vernon Avenue on the 110 Freeway and surrendered to LAPD officers, bringing the chase to a conclusion.
