Survey reveals 45% of Americans lack access to affordable healthcare.

A recent survey conducted by West Health and Gallup has revealed concerning trends regarding access to healthcare in the United States. According to the survey findings, 55 percent of American adults are now considered “cost secure,” meaning they do not struggle to pay for or access medical care and medications. This marks a significant decrease from 2022, when the percentage of “cost secure” adults was six points higher.

The survey also highlighted disparities among different age groups in terms of healthcare affordability. Younger adults, aged 18 to 49, were more likely to skip doctor’s appointments or not pick up prescribed medication due to financial constraints or lack of access. In contrast, older adults, aged 65 and above, were less likely to forgo medical treatment or medication for the same reasons. The data collected sheds light on the challenges faced by many Americans in accessing and affording essential healthcare services.

As the percentage of “cost secure” individuals continues to decline, with a significant portion classified as “cost insecure” or “cost desperate,” it is evident that the affordability of healthcare in the U.S. is a growing concern. With nearly half of U.S. adults admitting to skipping necessary medical care or medications due to financial or access issues, there is a pressing need for policy changes and interventions to ensure that all Americans can access the healthcare they need.
