Pocketpair had been rumored to plan the release of Palworld, one of the major games of the year, for PlayStation 5. Unexpectedly, it was announced during Sony’s State of Play stream that the action-adventure game is now available for the console.
Palworld, frequently described as "Pokémon with guns," initially launched on Xbox and PC in Early Access in January. The game quickly became popular, selling over a million copies within just eight hours and reaching over 25 million players within a month. Microsoft reported that it had the largest-ever debut for a third-party title on Game Pass.
However, The Pokémon Company soon began investigating Palworld. Eight months later, the company, along with Nintendo, filed a lawsuit against Pocketpair. According to Nintendo, the suit seeks an injunction against infringement and compensation for damages, alleging that Palworld infringes multiple patent rights. Pocketpair’s CEO maintained that the game had "cleared legal reviews," and the studio indicated its intention to begin appropriate legal proceedings and investigations into the claims of patent infringement.
Despite the ongoing legal battle, Palworld has made its way to the PlayStation 5. Players can now purchase the game on the platform, although its future remains uncertain due to the pending lawsuit.
