Nvidia unveiled its latest generation of AI graphics processors named Blackwell, with the first chip, GB200, set to launch later this year. As demand for more powerful chips grows, Nvidia aims to entice customers with enhancements geared towards spurring new orders. The company’s CEO, Jensen Huang, emphasized the need for larger GPUs, signaling a shift towards becoming a platform provider akin to Microsoft or Apple where other companies can build software on Nvidia’s technology.

The Blackwell platform boasts significant performance upgrades, offering 20 petaflops in AI performance compared to 4 petaflops for its predecessor, the H100. This enhanced processing power will enable AI companies to train larger and more complex models, propelling the industry forward. The introduction of revenue-generating software called NIM aims to streamline the deployment of AI solutions, providing customers with another reason to opt for Nvidia chips over competitors in the market. As Nvidia transitions towards a more software-centric approach, its new offerings are designed to make it easier to harness the full potential of Nvidia GPUs, ensuring compatibility across various models and facilitating seamless integration of AI applications.
