Bethesda announced their upcoming Indiana Jones game, “Indiana Jones and the Great Circle,” during Microsoft’s Xbox Developer Direct event last month and confirmed its release for Xbox and PC. However, there are now reports that Bethesda may also be considering launching the game on Sony’s PlayStation 5 console. This move reflects the emerging multi-platform approach for certain Xbox games inside Microsoft, suggesting a potential shift towards allowing select titles to appear on other platforms, such as Switch or PS5.

Although Bethesda intends to launch the Indiana Jones game as an Xbox console exclusive initially, it is expected to have a relatively short period of exclusivity. There are tentative plans for a PlayStation 5 release several months later, with a potential launch date set for December 2024 for the Xbox and PC versions. Microsoft’s new multi-platform approach for Xbox games has not yet been finalized, but its evaluation of bringing certain Xbox exclusives to PS5 and Nintendo Switch in recent months suggests a broader shift in strategy.

The potential release of Indiana Jones on PS5 comes after Disney originally planned for the game to be multi-platform before the deal was amended to be an Xbox console exclusive after Microsoft acquired Bethesda. There appears to be an ongoing debate internally at Microsoft regarding which Xbox games to bring to rival consoles, suggesting that the specifics of the multi-platform approach are still being ironed out.
