Last month at Meta Connect, Mark Zuckerberg announced that Meta AI is on track to become the most widely used generative AI assistant globally. The company has now achieved a significant milestone in this pursuit, with Meta AI surpassing the 500 million user mark, as revealed by Zuckerberg during the company’s latest earnings call.
This milestone has been reached just a year after the social network initially launched its AI assistant last autumn. Zuckerberg stated that the company still anticipates becoming the “most-used” assistant by the end of 2024, although he has not clarified the specific criteria by which this measurement is being made.
Meta’s AI assistant is not the only tool contributing to the company’s growth. Zuckerberg noted that AI enhancements in the platform’s feed and video recommendations have resulted in an 8 percent increase in time spent on Facebook and a 5 percent rise for Instagram this year. Advertisers are also leveraging the company’s AI tools, as Zuckerberg indicated, with over 15 million ads created using generative AI in the last month. “We believe that there’s a lot more upside here,” he stated.
Beyond AI, Meta’s Threads app continues its upward trajectory. According to Zuckerberg, the service now boasts “almost 275 million” monthly users. He mentioned that the app has been accruing more than a million sign-ups daily, with growth in user engagement as well.
