A luxury estate known as the “Sand Castle” located in La Jolla, California, is on the market with a $108 million asking price. The property, reminiscent of the French Riviera, is listed with Brett Dickinson and Ross Clark of the Dickinson-Clark Team at Compass. Owned by billionaire Darwin Deason, founder of Affiliated Computer Services, since 2009, the estate sprawls over 35,750 square feet and offers breathtaking ocean views.
The estate comprises two oceanfront parcels featuring a main house, a guest house, a “Boat Bar,” and multiple cabanas. The primary residence, exceeding 9,500 square feet, boasts seven bedrooms and eight bathrooms. It is adorned with custom furniture, New Ravenna mosaics, French fireplaces, and an elevator. The dining room is highlighted by a chandelier from the 1800s and gold leaf detailing.
The 3,416-square-foot guest house is designed with luxurious attention to detail, equipped with a kitchen that includes an outdoor pizza oven and barbecue. The property also features a large pool and a private beach. Notably, the sand on the beach shares similarities with that of the Augusta National Golf Course. A European-style garden path adds to the estate’s charm.
Deason decided to sell the property, citing his preference to spend time at other residences. His company was purchased by Xerox in 2010 in a multi-billion-dollar deal, and Forbes reports his net worth at $1.3 billion.
The La Jolla housing market, along with its luxury sector, is reportedly thriving, attracting both domestic and international buyers due to its appealing climate, economic, and educational opportunities. The area is part of the broader San Diego County, which has a population exceeding 3.2 million, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
