A recent study has revealed thousands of ancient Maya structures, including a previously undiscovered city, in the rainforests of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula. Researchers utilized aircraft equipped with laser imaging technology to survey the jungle in the Mexican state of Campeche. By emitting laser pulses onto the forest, the scientists uncovered numerous structures beneath the dense tree canopy.
