In a daring prison escape, Colorado inmate Ronald Caillier managed to overpower two officers, flee a hospital, and steal a neighbor’s minivan – all while still handcuffed. The 38-year-old initiated this bold breakout from inside the Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center emergency room, leaving authorities scrambling to capture him. Caillier’s escape was facilitated by his ability to overpower a deputy and security officer, allowing him to run away into the night.
During the escape, Caillier carjacked a white 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan that was conveniently left unlocked with the keys inside and a handgun beneath the driver’s seat. This added a dangerous element to his already reckless actions, with officials emphasizing that he should be considered “armed and very dangerous.” The deputy and security guard involved in the incident sustained injuries but have since been treated and released. Meanwhile, Caillier, who was originally being held on burglary and assault charges, remains at large in the La Junta neighborhood, posing a threat to public safety.
