Weekly Roundup: Indie Game Releases, News, and Trailers

The inaugural weekly roundup of indie game releases, news, and trailers provides a spotlight on notable games within the indie scene. Due to the vast number of daily releases, particularly on platforms like Steam, not every game can be individually featured. This roundup aims to highlight the games that stand out weekly. Readers are invited to share their projects via email.

This week’s focus includes a spreadsheet-based puzzler, a long-anticipated pirate hack-and-slash title, and two games developed by solo creators.

New Releases

SpreadCheat, a comedy puzzle game, evokes an early ’90s Windows 3.11 aesthetic and includes a Clippy-style assistant. The game involves solving puzzles by manipulating spreadsheet rules with optional side quests like virus clean-up. SpreadCheat is available on Steam.

Andrea Cavuoto’s Spear is an action-platformer where a non-player character must save the game world after the main hero is deleted. Players use a spear to navigate puzzles and combat foes. The game is now on Steam.

Captain Blood is reminiscent of PS2-era games and was initially announced in 2003. After numerous setbacks and legal issues, the game, now visualized more clearly, has been released across several platforms, including Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox, PC, and macOS.

Geoguessr is now accessible on Steam as an early access version, facilitating play on Steam Deck. Additionally, Among Us 3D is out, and Little Kitty, Big City is now available on PS4 and PS5.

Upcoming Releases

Zefyr: A Thief’s Melody, developed by Mathias Fontmarty over 12 years, combines elements of iconic games and involves exploring a game world on a giant turtle. It is set to launch on Steam on June 2.

Devolver Digital has announced Botsu, a voxel-based robot game expected between July and September, with a demo available on Steam.

Survios is adapting Alien: Rogue Incursion from VR to 2D for PS5 and PC, with the enhanced edition promising full HD and 60 fps gameplay, targeting a release on September 30.
