Google has announced the expansion of its AI-assisted note-taking and research tool, NotebookLM, by introducing the Audio Overviews feature in 76 additional languages. Initially launched last year, Audio Overviews allows users to create podcasts with AI virtual hosts based on documents such as course materials or legal briefs shared with NotebookLM.
The feature aims to provide users with an alternative method to digest and understand the information in the documents uploaded to the app. This enhancement enables a wider audience to access Audio Overviews in their chosen languages.
Previously, Audio Overviews were generated in the account’s default language setting. Google is now offering an “Output Language” option, allowing users to select the language in which their Audio Overviews are generated. This flexibility facilitates the creation of multilingual content or study materials.
For instance, Google highlighted that a teacher preparing a lesson on the Amazon rainforest could share resources in multiple languages—such as a Portuguese documentary, a Spanish research paper, and English reports—with students. The students can then upload these materials to generate an Audio Overview of key insights in their preferred language.
The new languages supported include Afrikaans, Arabic, Azerbaijani, Bulgarian, Bengali, Catalan, Czech, Danish, German, Greek, European Spanish, Latin American Spanish, Mexican Spanish, Estonian, Basque, Persian, Finnish, Filipino, European French, Canadian French, Galician, Gujarati, Hindi, Croatian, Haitian Creole, Hungarian, Armenian, Indonesian, Icelandic, Italian, Hebrew, Japanese, and others.
Additionally, Javanese, Georgian, Kannada, Korean, Konkani, Latin, Lithuanian, Latvian, Maithili, Macedonian, Malayalam, Marathi, Malay, Burmese (Myanmar), Nepali, Dutch, Norwegian (Nynorsk), Norwegian (Bokmål), Oriya, Punjabi, Polish, Pashto, Brazilian Portuguese, Portuguese from Portugal, Romanian, Russian, Sindhi, Sinhala, Slovak, Slovenian, Albanian, Serbian (Cyrillic), Swedish, Swahili, Tamil, Telugu, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian, Urdu, Vietnamese, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese are also included.
