Google Maps is introducing a speedometer and speed limit indicators for iOS and CarPlay, a feature that Android users have had since 2019. Now, iPhone users can finally have access to these helpful tools to monitor their driving speeds while using Google Maps. In addition, Waze has had similar features since 2016, adding to the availability of these useful functions for drivers.

To activate the speedometer and speed limit indicators on Google Maps, users can tap their profile picture, go to Settings, and navigate to the Map display section. From there, they can enable the features which will display the speedometer in the bottom left corner of the screen. The speedometer will change colors if the driver exceeds the speed limit, serving as a reminder to slow down and maintain safe driving practices.

Google emphasizes that the speedometer is meant for informational use only and should not serve as a substitute for the car’s actual speedometer. It is important for drivers to be aware that their actual driving speed may differ from the speed shown on Google Maps. The rollout of these new features will be global in the coming weeks, as iPhone users in India have already been spotted using them, enhancing the driving experience for users worldwide.
