Fortnite Simplifies Its Numerous Battle Passes

Published on

Fortnite has expanded beyond its original battle royale format, and Epic Games plans to streamline progression through the game’s various battle passes. The company announced that it will allow players to use XP earned from any experience within Fortnite to apply to all available passes.

At present, the XP earned in different Fortnite modes does not contribute to progression in specific passes such as Lego Fortnite and the music-themed Fortnite Festival. These currently require players to earn “studs” and “festival points” by playing their respective modes.

Starting November 2nd, Epic Games will begin transitioning to an XP-based progression system. Initially, this change will apply to the Music Pass, which has been renamed from Festival Pass, and festival points will be abolished. On December 1st, the transition to using XP will extend to the “Brick or Treat” Lego Pass, resulting in the phasing out of studs. Concurrently, the “battle stars” earned via XP in Fortnite’s main battle pass will also be discontinued.

Epic Games continues to enhance Fortnite as a platform with diverse experiences crafted by both Epic and creators, rather than focusing solely on one primary mode. Allowing XP to be used across all experiences addresses challenges associated with this evolution. This development follows approximately a year since the launch of Lego Fortnite, Rocket Racing, and Fortnite Festival, during which Epic has gained insights into player preferences.

Additional changes are forthcoming. Music and LEGO Passes released after December 1st will feature a single track containing both free rewards and premium rewards exclusive to purchasers, similar to the main Fortnite battle pass structure. Epic will enable users to directly purchase specific rewards within a pass without needing to progress through levels or buy levels to reach that reward. Although the battle pass, Lego Pass, and Music Pass are currently separate purchases, Epic has announced plans to eventually offer a consolidated purchase option for all three passes.
