Remedy Entertainment has announced a multiplayer follow-up to its game “Control,” titled “FBC: Firebreak.” This new release is designed for teams of three, who will combat waves of enemies using a unique selection of weaponry. The trailer showcases weapons such as a gatling gun emitting gloopy poison and a gun equipped with a launching piston for aerial assaults.
Set in the same universe as “Control” and “Alan Wake II,” “FBC: Firebreak” offers players further exploration of this surreal setting. Footage from the trailer highlights gunfights within familiar locations like the Federal Bureau of Control and the Oldest House, known to those who have engaged with “Control” and its DLC. However, the gameplay follows a different approach, indicating that “FBC: Firebreak” is not meant to be a direct sequel to the psychological thriller. Game Director Mike Kayatta stated that it could be seen as a spin-off in a positive sense, emphasizing that “FBC: Firebreak” is a complete and standalone experience.
The co-op project was initially teased in 2021, with “Firebreak” having evolved from the original concept announced by Remedy alongside 505 Games. During that period, Remedy was also developing a free-to-play co-op shooter with Tencent, codenamed Project Vanguard, which was ultimately abandoned in 2023. Attempts to reimagine it as a premium title were also discontinued.
“FBC: Firebreak” is slated for release in 2025 and will be available on Game Pass at launch. The game is expected to be released for Xbox Series X|S, PC, and PlayStation 5.
