A Georgia couple, Timothy Stephens and Alyssia Langley, were arrested in Florida for negligence after being found drunk and asleep on Daytona Beach while their young children were swimming unsupervised nearby. Deputies discovered the couple passed out on a towel with children’s toys around them but no sign of the kids. Empty beer cans, a bottle of Crown Royal whiskey, and other open alcoholic beverages were found with the couple, indicating their intoxicated state.
When awakened by deputies, Stephens and Langley were disoriented and unable to locate their children or identify their whereabouts. Deputies guided them to a nearby pool where the five and seven-year-old children were found swimming without adult supervision. Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood expressed shock and disgust at the couple’s recklessness and negligence, emphasizing the potential dangers the children were exposed to due to the couple’s intoxicated state. Stephens, deemed the legal guardian of the children, faces child neglect and alcohol possession charges, while Langley also faces child neglect charges for their irresponsible behavior. Stephens attempted to escape during the arrest but fell unconscious after tripping and was subsequently treated at a hospital.
