Costco Recalls Frozen Waffles and Freeze-Dried Meat Due to Listeria Risk

Published on

A recall has been announced for frozen waffles and freeze-dried meat sold at Costco due to potential listeria concerns. On Tuesday, TreeHouse Foods expanded a voluntary recall to encompass all products produced at one of its facilities that are still within their shelf life. The Krusteaz Belgian Waffles 24-count, which were sold at Costco from October 13, 2023, to October 21, 2024, are among the affected items.

Additionally, TreeHouse Foods issued a broader recall notice affecting products available at numerous retail stores, naming at least nine other retailers. Listeria monocytogenes, the organism responsible for the contamination, poses significant health risks, particularly to young children, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems. Infections can lead to severe and sometimes fatal outcomes, with healthy individuals experiencing symptoms such as fever, headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Pregnant women are at risk of experiencing miscarriages or stillbirths.

The affected products were distributed across the United States and Canada in various formats. Consumers and retailers can identify impacted products by the UPC on the carton, lot code, and best-by date. Consumers with recalled products should either dispose of them or return them to where they were purchased for credit. No illnesses linked to the recalled products have been reported thus far, according to TreeHouse Foods.

In addition to the waffles, another recalled product sold at Costco is Nutristore Freeze Dried Deluxe Meat Variety #10 Cans, 12 count. This recall was issued due to potential listeria contamination in chicken from one of their suppliers. Consumers are advised to return any remaining cans of chicken for a full refund rather than consume them.

Costco generally informs customers who have bought recalled products and provides information about product recalls on its website.
