According to reports from Insider Gaming, a game titled Time to Live based on Blade Runner was in development but never officially announced, and the project has now been canceled. This undeveloped title was in the works at Supermassive Games, known for creating Until Dawn. The proposed game was designed as a character-focused action-adventure where players would assume the role of So-Lange, a Blade Runner, set in 2065, long past their operational lifespan.
Reports suggest that pre-production may have begun in late 2024, involving several team members from the 2023 game The Quarry. If it had proceeded, Time to Live was projected for a fall 2027 release on PC and both current and next-gen consoles. Documentation obtained by Insider Gaming proposed that the gameplay would involve a combination of stealth, action, exploration, and investigation, drawing comparisons to games like Cyberpunk 2077 and Deus Ex.
The cancellation of Time to Live was reportedly due to Alcon Entertainment, which owns the Blade Runner IP, deciding to end the project late last year. However, a definitive reason was not provided. When questioned, Supermassive Games declined to comment, while Alcon acknowledged past “discussions” about a Blade Runner project that ceased due to “business reasons.”
To date, there have been three video games based on Blade Runner. The 1985 version was a shoot-em-up, taking loose inspiration from the film, while the 1997 release was a point-and-click adventure game. In 2018, Seismic Games released Revelations, a VR title. A few years ago, Annapurna Interactive started developing Blade Runner 2033: Labyrinth, its first in-house game, though its status is uncertain following the developer’s internal issues in 2024.
Regardless of the existence of Time to Live, the Blade Runner franchise continues to expand. Beyond gaming, Prime Video is developing a TV series featuring Michelle Yeoh and Hunter Schafer.
