They raised 11,000 mosquitoes, dusting them with fluorescent green powder, and released them into the island’s air as part of an experiment. Human volunteers then awaited the arrival of these mosquitoes, exposing their arms and legs to lure the insects in. Once a mosquito landed, the volunteers captured it in a cup, using a rubber tube attached to a glass vial. This venture aims to combine traditional mosquito control methods with cutting-edge genetic science to combat malaria, the deadliest mosquito-borne disease.
