Elon Musk’s social media platform X continues to be banned in Brazil, even after the country withdrew $3.3 million from the bank accounts of X and SpaceX-affiliated Starlink to settle fines. These fines were imposed due to Musk’s non-compliance with Brazil’s Supreme Court, following a dispute between the X owner and Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes over content on the platform.
Reports on social media indicated that Musk’s companies had paid the $3.3 million fine, leading to some confusion regarding the status of the bans. Although the Brazilian court ordered the lifting of the “blockage” on Starlink’s and X’s bank accounts, the nationwide ban on the X platform remains in effect, according to Bloomberg.
Additionally, the payment was not made voluntarily by Musk’s companies; rather, it was ordered by Brazil’s court on Wednesday. This was done to satisfy the demand for fines.
The situation escalated last month when Justice de Moraes ordered the ban on the X platform after Musk refused to remove accounts that the court deemed to be in violation of Brazilian laws. In response, Musk withdrew X representatives from Brazil and declined to appoint a new legal representative, as required by de Moraes.
