In a report from the recent newsletter, Mark Gurman from Bloomberg discusses Apple’s upcoming smart home display, which shares a resemblance to the early 2000s iMac G4. The device is described as a countertop tablet with a square screen positioned at an angle on a small base, evoking the circular base design of the iMac G4. This base is also anticipated to house the speakers. The release of this device is expected next year, with a subsequent, more advanced version featuring a robotic arm to adjust the screen’s position.
The initial model, described by Gurman, will be more budget-friendly and will feature a relatively small screen, approximately the size of two iPhones placed side by side. Its main use will be for controlling smart home devices, but it will also support applications like FaceTime, Calendar, and media display for photos and videos. The pricier model is expected to have a larger display and robotic features, with a possible release not anticipated until 2026. Gurman predicts this high-end version could cost nearly $1,000. Both models are projected to include Apple Intelligence functionality.
