Residents of the European Union have been informed of the availability of Apple Intelligence on their mobile devices. On Monday, Apple announced to EU users that its AI suite would be launched in April 2025. The initial Apple Intelligence features, such as Writing Tools and AI notification summaries, are currently accessible to English speakers in other regions.
Apple declared the EU release date in a press release, conveyed through a European Union source. According to a translation from Italian, the announcement states, “In April, Apple Intelligence features will begin to be distributed to iPhone and iPad users in the EU.”
The report also mentions that the first phase of Apple Intelligence is already accessible to EU users in macOS Sequoia 15.1, as Apple cited the Digital Markets Act (DMA) to justify the delay of its AI in the EU. These regulations only impact iPhone and iPad software, not macOS.
Additionally, on Monday, Apple confirmed that its AI suite would become available in more languages in April and throughout the year via a software update. The languages include Chinese, Korean, French, Japanese, English (India), English (Singapore), Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, German, and Vietnamese. In December, Apple Intelligence will roll out to English variants in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, and the UK.
Apple Intelligence is undergoing a phased rollout. The initial version for iOS 18.1 (outside the EU) introduces Writing Tools, live transcriptions, notification summaries, and more. Upcoming versions, iOS 18.2 and macOS Sequoia 15.2, will incorporate features like ChatGPT integration, Genmoji, Visual Intelligence, and Image Playground. This software is currently in beta, with an official release anticipated for December.
To use the new features, compatible devices are necessary. On iPhone, this includes the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and the iPhone 16 series. M-series iPads, Macs, and the new seventh-generation iPad mini are also supported.
Update, October 28, 2024, 4:09 PM ET: This report has been revised to correct the timeline for the release of Apple Intelligence in additional languages, clarifying that it will occur “in April and throughout the year” rather than just “in April.”
