Adobe introduces Firefly-enabled AI tools for web-based Photoshop.

Published on

Adobe has officially launched Photoshop for the web, making it available to all users with paid plans. This web version of Photoshop had been in beta for nearly two years and now comes with Firefly-powered AI tools such as generative fill and generative expand. The web version organizes the tools in the toolbar based on workflows, such as image reproduction or object selection. It also shows the full names of the tools for beginners, instead of just the tooltip descriptions.

Users can now collaborate easily on files by sharing links, even if the recipient does not have a subscription. In May, Adobe introduced Firefly-powered features like generative expand and generative fill, but they were only available on the beta version of Photoshop. Now, these features are also accessible on the web version, which allows Adobe to issue quicker updates and test new features. While the web version includes most of the tools from the desktop version, it is still missing the patch tool, pen tool, smart object support, and polygonal lasso. Adobe has plans to add these missing tools in future updates.

However, the company has stated that it currently has no plans to offer a free or freemium version of Photoshop on the web. This decision means that access to Photoshop on the web is limited to users with paid plans. Overall, this launch expands the reach of Photoshop and provides a convenient web-based option for users to edit and collaborate on their projects.
