March Sees Surge in Tesla Used Car Listings

Published on

A significant increase has been observed in the number of Tesla owners selling their used vehicles, influenced by the political activities of Elon Musk and the global protests these activities have incited.

In March, data from Autotrader.com, reported by Sherwood News and sourced from Autotrader’s parent company Cox Automotive, highlighted a substantial rise in the number of used Tesla vehicles listed for sale. The final week of March saw a notable surge, with an average of over 13,000 used Teslas available—a 67% increase compared to the same week the previous year, marking a record high.

Concurrently, there has been a decline in new Tesla vehicle sales, even as sales of electric vehicles (EVs) from other brands are on the rise. According to the latest report from Kelley Blue Book, nearly 300,000 new EVs were sold in the first quarter of 2025 in the U.S., representing a 10.6% year-over-year growth. In contrast, Tesla’s sales in the same period dropped by nearly 9% compared to the first quarter of 2024.

Although automakers such as GM and Hyundai continue to trail behind Tesla, they are experiencing growth. GM, for example, sold over 30,000 EVs in the first quarter, nearly doubling their volume from the previous year, as reported by Kelley Blue Book.
