Cyberattack Halts Train Ticket Sales in Ukraine

Published on

Ukraine’s state-owned railway operator, Ukrzaliznytsia, announced on Monday that it had been targeted by a significant cyberattack. According to the railway operator’s official Telegram channel, the attack disrupted online ticket sales, including those made through its mobile app, although train services continued without interruption.

Daryna Antoniuk, a journalist located in Ukraine, covered the incident for The Record from Kyiv’s central station. She noted that the capital’s main railway station was unusually crowded on Monday morning, with numerous individuals standing in long queues to purchase tickets for both domestic and international travel.

In its statement, Ukrzaliznytsia affirmed, based on a machine translation, that the attackers failed to accomplish their primary objective. The train traffic remained stable, with operations proceeding smoothly and without delays, supported by a backup operational format.

The operator advised customers that if they were unable to purchase tickets at the ticket office in time, they should proceed directly to the train.
