Google is extending its “Help me write” feature to Gmail on the web, enabling users to create or modify emails using the Gemini AI. Similar to the mobile version, users will encounter a prompt to utilize the feature when they open a blank draft in Gmail.
The “Help me write” function is accessible only to those who subscribe to Google One AI Premium or have the Gemini add-on for Workspace. Besides generating a draft, the feature can also offer suggestions to formalize, elaborate, or shorten a message.
Additionally, Google is introducing a shortcut for the “polish” option within its “Help me write” tools, which will be available for drafts containing more than 12 words. For web users, this can be accessed by clicking the shortcut or pressing Ctrl + H to quickly refine an email.
On mobile devices, this option will replace the current “Refine my draft” shortcut. Instead of swiping to view options for polishing, formalizing, elaborating, or shortening an email, the app will automatically refine the message when the “polish” shortcut is swiped. Users will then have the option to further adjust the message using other AI editing tools provided by Google.
The gradual rollout of “Help me write” on the web, along with the new “polish” shortcut, commences today.
