Amazon has introduced the latest version of its popular Kindle Paperwhite, marking the sixth iteration in the product line. This new model is the thinnest yet, featuring an upgraded 7-inch screen which is slightly larger than the previous model’s 6.8-inch display. It also boasts the highest contrast of any Kindle to date, utilizing oxide thin-film transistor display technology.
The device’s speed has been enhanced, promising page turns that are 25 percent faster. It remains waterproof but now includes a premium soft-touch grip material. The Kindle Paperwhite offers 16 GB of storage and is available in three color options: Raspberry, Jade, and Black. It is currently available for purchase on Amazon for $160.
In addition to the standard model, Amazon has released a premium version called the Paperwhite Signature Edition, which includes additional features. This model offers 32 GB of storage, an auto-adjusting front light, and optional wireless charging. The Paperwhite Signature Edition is offered in Metallic Raspberry, Metallic Jade, and Metallic Black for $200.
For those looking for a more budget-friendly option, Amazon has updated its entry-level Kindle with the 12th generation model. This version includes a 6-inch screen with a higher contrast ratio for improved text legibility and a front light that is 25 percent brighter at maximum setting. Performance has also been enhanced for faster page-turning, and it comes in Black or a new “Matcha” color, available now for $110.
Amazon has also unveiled its first color Kindle, the Colorsoft, designed for graphic novels and other digital color content. It features “rich, paper-like color” through an oxide backplane display, delivering high contrast for both color and black-and-white content. The Colorsoft is available for pre-order for $280, with shipping scheduled for October 30.
Lastly, Amazon has announced the release of its second Kindle Scribe reader, which functions as both an e-reader and a note-taking device, comparable to the reMarkable tablets. The Kindle Scribe is set for release on December 4, though it is currently available for pre-order at a price of $400.
