The dual-sport Origin motorcycle offers a city range of 90 miles and a combined range of 70 miles. When ridden at average speeds above 55 mph, the range is observed to be approximately 50 miles. This variation is noticeable in daily use, and the off-road knobby tires likely contribute to the reduced efficiency.
Both the Origin and the Pulse motorcycles are equipped with the same 8.9-kWh battery pack. In urban settings, the Pulse achieves an efficiency of 11.2 miles per kWh, slightly outperforming the Zero S, which boasts an efficiency of 10.7 miles per kWh and a city range of 154 miles from its 14.4-kWh battery.
Additionally, for those interested in retro styling, Maeving presents the RM1S, a sportier city electric vehicle option. The RM1S has a top speed of 70 mph and a maximum range of 80 miles. It offers two significant advantages: its batteries are removable and swappable, and it is priced below $9,000, making it a cost-effective alternative compared to Can-Am motorcycles.
Both Can-Am models come with a Level 2 AC (SAE J1772) charging port, supporting charging up to 6.6 kW. According to Can-Am, the motorcycles can charge from 20 to 80 percent in roughly 50 minutes. Regarding future compatibility with the NACS (SAE 3400, also known as the Tesla port), Can-Am indicated that it would adapt with market evolution and provide adapters as necessary.
The all-electric Pulse and the taller Origin serve as reminders of Can-Am’s presence in the motorcycle industry. One noteworthy feature of these bikes is active regenerative braking. Traditional passive regenerative braking slows the bike using the electric motor while sending deceleration energy back to the battery. Can-Am’s active regeneration system allows riders to twist the throttle beyond its neutral position up to roughly 6 degrees after rolling off, enabling additional regenerative braking. This innovative solution enhances the motorcycle’s efficiency without integrating regenerative braking with traditional friction brakes.
