Arizona to face consecutive storms this week.

Published on

Arizona is preparing for back-to-back winter storms, with a mix of rain, snow, and gusty winds expected to affect travel and outdoor activities. The storms will hit the Valley and high country, leading to a string of Weather Action Days, with winter storm warnings in effect for areas above 6,000 feet in elevation in Yavapai County, along the Mogollon Rim, and in the White Mountains. Snow levels are anticipated to drop to around 6,500 feet by Tuesday night and 5,000 feet by Wednesday night, potentially resulting in nearly a foot of snow in places like Flagstaff, Williams, and Forest Lakes. Road conditions will rapidly deteriorate in the high country, with slick, snow-covered roads and areas of blowing snow expected. Wind gusts reaching 50 mph in northeastern and southeastern Arizona will also require caution.

In the Valley, gusts will reach near 35 mph, with widespread rain expected and the potential for an inch and a half of rain across neighborhoods. These conditions will likely lead to longer commutes, ponding on roads, and areas of flooding, prompting the issuance of flood watches for parts of Arizona. The Phoenix Open may experience delays or require attendees to seek shelter due to the anticipated rain and thunderstorms. As the storms move in, it is also getting much cooler, with Valley highs in the upper 60s and lows in the 40s, with these conditions expected to persist throughout the week. Overall, it is time to prepare for a stormy week in Arizona.

With Winter Storm Warnings and Wind Advisories in effect, the state will need to remain on high alert, especially in areas with higher elevations. Residents and travelers are encouraged to take necessary precautions and be prepared for potential disruptions due to the inclement weather conditions. Overall, the storms will bring a significant weather shift across various parts of Arizona, affecting travel, outdoor activities, and events such as the Phoenix Open. This week will be marked by unpredictable weather conditions and the need to exercise caution in the face of the coming storms.
